Our Services
We offer comprehensive audiology care utilizing cutting-edge technology. Here, precision diagnoses lead to tailored solutions, allowing you to rediscover your optimal hearing!
Hearing Tests
An audiologist will conduct a hearing consultation to diagnose hearing loss and discuss relevant hearing loss solutions.
The consultation will include the following steps:
Hearing case history (pre-appointment questionnaire & consultation) to determine how hearing loss is affecting your life, to understand your needs and to get ideas for the best hearing loss solution for you;
The audiologist looks in your ears for possible causes of hearing loss, such as earwax or inflammation from ear infection;
Audiometer tests like pure tone audiometry and speech audiometry are done in a sound proof booth where you hear sounds and words directed to each ear through head phones. Each tone and/or word is repeated at faint levels to find the quietest sound/s and words you can hear;
Immittance measurements to evaluate your middle ear functioning and sensory-neural integrity. It can help diagnose problems with the middle ear, such as fluid build-up or a perforated eardrum.
Hearing tests are typically painless and non-invasive. They can provide important information about an individual’s hearing abilities, which can be used to develop a treatment plan if necessary. It’s recommended that adults get their hearing tested at least once every ten years until age 50, and then every three years thereafter.
Virtual Consultations
A virtual consultation is a remote video conversation between a client and an audiologist. It is a convenient way to consult your audiologist and get quality audiological advice and treatment without making a trip to The Hearing Clinic. A virtual consultation doesn’t substitute face-to-face consultations but offer an alternative. It is an accessible way in which elderly patients and those located far away can connect with us. A face-to-face consultation can be arranged, should the need arise.
Earwax Removal
Our audiologists can remove excess earwax by using a surgical tool, called a curet, that lights up. We can also flush out the wax using a syringe filled with warm water and saline. Medicated ear drops may also be recommended to help soften the wax.
Referral to Medical Specialists
We may refer you to a medical specialist if we suspect that an underlying medical condition is contributing to your symptoms. These conditions may include ear infections, tinnitus, dizziness, balance issues, structural abnormalities or ototoxicity. The medical specialist can provide further evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment as needed.
Hearing Aids
Based on the results of your hearing test and your lifestyle needs, your audiologist at The Hearing Clinic will recommend the ideal hearing aid for you from our variety of 10 international hearing aid brands. She will explain the different features and benefits of each hearing aid, discuss the pros and cons of different styles of hearing aids as well as the financial implications of each option.
Once you have selected a hearing aid, your audiologist will fit the hearing aid to your ear (immediately or during a follow-up appointment). She will make sure the hearing aid fits properly and is comfortable to wear. She will also program the hearing aid to your specific hearing needs and train you on the proper use and maintenance of the hearing aid/s.
After your hearing aid is fitted, you will typically go through a trial period during which you can try out the hearing aids and make sure it meets your needs. If you experience any problems or difficulties during the trial period, your audiologist can make adjustments to the hearing aids to improve its performance.
After the trial period, you may have follow-up appointments with your audiologist to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your hearing aids. She may also provide you with helpful advice on how to care for your hearing aids and how to get the most out of its features.
Overall, a hearing aid selection consultation is a thorough process that is designed to help you find the best hearing aid to meet your specific needs. Your audiologist will work closely with you throughout the process to ensure that you are comfortable and satisfied with your hearing aids.
Hearing Aid Maintenance and Repairs
If you find your hearing aids are not working the way that it used to, reach out to us to schedule a repair. We happily repair hearing aids that were purchased with us or elsewhere. Most simple repairs can be completed in-house; however, more complicated restorations will need to be sent to the manufacturer. In this case, we will take care of getting the aids where they need to go in order to receive the best care. Repair costs of hearing aids may be covered under the guarantee, by the medical aid or as arranged with your audiologist.
Custom Hearing Protection
Custom hearing protection refers to earplugs or earmolds that are specifically made to fit an individual's ears. Unlike off-the-shelf earplugs, which are one-size-fits-all and may not provide a secure or comfortable fit for everyone, custom hearing protection is molded to the unique contours of an individual's ear canal or outer ear. This personalized fit helps to provide a more effective and reliable seal against noise, making it an ideal choice for individuals who are regularly exposed to loud or hazardous noise environments, such as musicians, construction workers, and hunters.
Custom hearing protection can be made from a variety of materials, including silicone, vinyl, and acrylic. The process of making custom hearing protection typically involves taking an impression of the ear canal or outer ear, which is then used to create a mold for the earplug or earmold. The finished product is then fitted to the individual's ear to ensure a comfortable and secure fit.
Custom hearing protection can provide several benefits over off-the-shelf earplugs, including greater comfort, increased effectiveness in blocking noise, and a longer lifespan with proper care.
Tinnitus Treatment
Tinnitus is an annoying buzzing, ringing or hissing sound in one or both of the ears that is most often associated with hearing loss. At The Hearing Clinic, we work closely with our clients who suffer from tinnitus to help find individualized solutions to meet their needs. Treatment options may include one or multiple of the following: tinnitus treatments built into hearing aids, tinnitus masking devices or apps, lifestyle changes or therapies e.g. cognitive behavioural therapy.
